Default Mlang.dll error messag how to fix problem

I am running Windows 98SE still, I get an error message whenever I try to
make my active desk top or folders react like a web page the error mesage is
as follows;

I get the old Red x Explorer: This program has performed an illegal
operation and will be shut down.
When I click on details the error message reads as follows;

EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in

Okay.

Okay..

4. Did you make any manual registry modifications related to Active

Desktop

Pa Bear's suggestion [font corruption] is likely part of the problem,
however, the defrag lockup could also have corrupted FAT and files,
depending upon where in the process it occurred [such as during the FAT
re-write].
IF this occurred recently and you have NOT restarted more than 5

times[five days], you may be able to roll-back to a working registry using
scanreg /restore to an old working registry, though that will likely still
leave corrupted files. It appears though, that you have been working on this
issue for some time now so this is likely moot.

Your continuing issues with IE, OutLook, and OE indicate registry issues.
It MAY be possible to fix the errors by trial and error, however, due to the
system issues associated with these three programs, it may be wise to
attempt re-install the applications [no guarantee of a fix though]. IF you
had actually fixed the issues (as you claimed) you would not be posting with
further issues. Also the inability to uninstall further indicates loss of
key registry entries.
A common 9X registry contains approximately:
200+ entries related to the desktop;
50+ Control Panel entries;
a couple hundred Uninstall entries;
a hundred+ .cpl entries;
several thousand .dll entries;
400+ font entries;
just a Word97 installation causes 333 specific entries;
....
The point being:
MINOR issues can be fixed via manual manipulation/re-registering and other
techniques, however, when confronted with MAIN and MAJOR applications [like
Office, OutLook, etc.] it might be time to start from scratch. Coupled with
the apparent defrag corruption, and this may be a futile attempt to recover
a system deeply corrupted.

The AVG corruption likely occurred during the the defrag lockup. AVG was
scanning files [presuming you left it active], meaning its own files were in
memory at the time of the lockup, in addition to the scanned file [the one
defrag was moving/accessing]. AVG [and other such as AVAST] makes ongoing
modifications to its files during scanning [read/write] AND hold the scanned
file writing until AFTER scanning has occurred [meaning a failure leaves
either nothing or a partial corrupted file]. They also constantly read and
write to the registry.

MOREOVER, the defrag lock-up brings its own distinct questions and issues.
Though it MAY be related to a system over-loaded, it may also indicate some
original corruption or other issues prior to the failure. Many Windows users
don't defrag until Internet access slows down, or the system seems slow,
thinking this is the issue, when it might be SpyWare, a virus, or some other
problem.

5. Are you using TweakUI or other registry modification tools?

#5
No

Good.

6. What pages are you attempting to create as/within the Active Desktop
interface?

#6
Not attempting to make pages if I tell windows to view any folder as a web
page once I access the folder the Mlang.dll error msg comes up. The only

way
for me to then access the folder is to open it using explorer then un
checking view folder as web page.

Well, if we weren't trying to diagnose this, I would recommend disabling
ALL Active Desktop and View as Web Page anyway. However, the font correction
MIGHT achieve partial success, though you will likely have continuing issues
over the course of time. Save what you need, and consider re-installing; its
an excellent time to get rid of those applications and games you haven't
used in years.

7. What is the base language being used [e.g., utf-8, ansii,

windows-1252,
etc.] AND/OR of the pages you are attempting to save/use?

#7
?

These three questions [7-9] are related to system settings which MIGHT have
affected further diagnosis of the issues. Makes it easier to localize to a
more standard system and potential issues. Since you indicate No or unknown,
then we can ignore these potential modifiers [you would know why these
applied had you installed or modified the settings].

8. Do you have unicows installed? [9X Unicode]

#8
no I do not believe so.

9. Do you have .NET installed?

#9
No I do not believe so.

Question #1

Not totaly sure how to find which versions I have.

Using Explorer, right click on the files and choose PropertiesVersion
note the information provided.

2. Are you running the officially update version of 9X?

#2
yes and w/ all updates installed.

Okay.

3. Have you completely updated the system and IE?

#3
yes

Okay..

4. Did you make any manual registry modifications related to Active

Desktop
or IE?

#4
The way the problem 1st began was my defragmenting the hard drive, defrag
hung up and after I restarted windows my AVG 7 anti virus was shot, and I
began to notice the Internet explorer problems and sharing violations w/
Outlook and Out look express I have since fixed these 3 problems w/ the

error
help on microsoft.

However I still have the problem w/ windows explorer error msg, I can make
sure that I do not click on view folder as a web page which does work

around
the problem. But I have a few other problems that I can't load some games
due to windows not being able to make an uninstall so it won't load games

and
I also have one photo program that I get the same error msg Mland.dll

error
so its possible that fonts is still messed up.

200+ entries related to the desktop;
50+ Control Panel entries;
a couple hundred Uninstall entries;
a hundred+ .cpl entries;
several thousand .dll entries;
400+ font entries;
just a Word97 installation causes 333 specific entries;
