task bar ghosts after Avast removal
In Win98SE, a freshly downloaded/installed Avast locked up the machine while
Firefox 2 was running. Three finger salute was ignored, and had to do a hard reset. On subsequent restart, after the inevitable Scandisk invocation, two weird things occurred. Firstly, on the task bas - before the screen icons were deployed - there were three tasks shown, none of which were (obviously) running. Once the icons had settled down (see #2) these ghost task bar "tabs" disappeared. On shutdown, these same ghosts reappeared before the shutdown splash appeared. When the desktop appeared on bootup, the icons appeared, then disappeared and reappeared, then repeated this. Up, down, up, down, up. I have since done an uninstall of Avast, but the behaviour hasn't changed. I searched the MSKB for references to task bar ghosts but found nothing promising. Any suggestions (esp. the ghosts) short of a full reinstall or an exorcism? |

What AV app was installed before you attempted to install Avast?
Did you attempt to install Avast5?
