Default Missing ShellIconCache

YW, Ben - that's why I stay around!!
The XP groups tend to be a little too aggressive for my tastes (although I
can mix it with 'the best', on occasion) - these groups are family for me
(without the internecine strife of real families, most of the time!)

How pleasant it is to read the way you 'regulars' interact. Very cheering.
Guaranteed to give one a smile. I came back to get a link to this thread
in
order to give credit where it was due (elsewhere) and noticed the
additional
posts.

All the best, Noel and Alan.

Hi Ben

Glad to know a stab in the dark worked.
Thanks for the feedback.

Hello Alan,

Just one 'traditional' restart gave me the ShellIconCache. What do I

notice?
More uniformity in the finalisation of the loading of my Desktop icons.

I appreciate your sharing of the knowhow.

Thanks.

Ben.

Noel, although I am uncertain as to what you were trying to tell me, I
do
have a suggestion for 'fat fingers' - take piano lessons! vbg

Alan, hello and thanks for responding.

Yes I do use shortcuts for shutdowns and restarts - these:

C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.EXE user.exe,exitwindows and
C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.EXE shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2

I will revert to the original and see if it works. But, Alan, what
will
having the cache do for my system?

Ben.

If it is not a hidden file in the Windows folder, then it probably
doesn't exist. You won't find it on the CD.

Do you use some other method to shutdown instead of Start-Shutdown
that may be stopping ShellIconCache being created when you shut
down?

Hello,

I cannot find the ShellIconCache file? either on my system or on my
WinME
CD. Although I have no problem with my computer I would appreciate

some
input as to the significance (or otherwise) of this missing item.

Thank you.

Ben.
