| Thank you very much, Joe. In the "Select Device" table there were three
| choices. I selected "S3 Inc. ViRGE PCI". The other choices were "S3
| Inc. ViRGE/DX/GX/ PCI" and "S3 Inc. ViRGE/VX PCI". The display is
| working much better now, in 16-bit color at 800x600 resolution.
| There are still a few problems.
| When the computer starts up, the Desktop wallpaper shows. Then a box
| displays reading:
| RUNDLL
| Error loading C:\WINDOWS\NEWDOT~1.DLL
| The system cannot find the file specified.
| Then there is another box reading:
| Error
| Resource file not founded. Program killed.
| Near this point the screen goes dark for about 15 seconds. After that
| everything seems OK.
| Would there be anything else I can try? When my computer was first set
| up under Windows 95, it had drivers for Number Nine. Windows 98 has
| drivers for that.
| Thanks again,
| Daniel

| The drivers for your S3 Virge PCI 325 video card can be found he

| W9531201.zip 244k 1999 May 13 Binary- MS Cert.Win 95
| v.4.03.00.2111-3.12.01-PR
| They are the latest and last drivers available from S3.
| Create a folder on your desktop called Video Drivers.
| Download the video drivers to it. Right click and extract the files to
the
| *same folder*, or extract it using one of the free zip utilities from the
PC
| World Magazine website:
| **If you already have the drivers extracted in a folder you can find, then
| start here.**
| Since the drivers do not have a self-installer so you will have to follow
| these installation instructions for Example 2 or Example 3:
| DRIVER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
| Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.
| Start the "Display" applet program.
| Select the "Settings" page, push the "Change Display Type" button.
| Push the "Change" button in the "Adapter Type" area.
| Push the "Have Disk" button and press "OK".
| Specify the path to the new driver and press the ENTER
| key:
| Example 2: Type in the name of the directory where you copied
| the drivers, either on your local hard drive or
| on a network share.
| (***This will be the Video Drivers folder you created
| on your Desktop***)
| Example 3: If you're not sure exactly where the drivers are,
| choose the "Browse..." button are find them.
| (***This will be the Video Drivers folder you created
| on your Desktop***)
| The "Select Device" dialog box will appear. Select the adapter that
| corresponds to the one you installed in your machine and click OK.
| Windows 95 (or Windows 98) will copy the display drivers to the
proper
| directories
| on your system.
| Continue choosing Close until asked to restart your machine from the
| "Systems Settings Change" dialog box.
| After the system has restarted, you can go back into the Display
| applet and select alternate screen resolutions and color depths.
| Make sure you *temporarily* disable your anti-virus program since it can
| interfere with the video drivers installation process. Reboot your
| computer.
