Default Reinstalling Updates After Reinstalling Windows

Go to Start/Run.
Type Qfecheck.exe hit OK.
If it does not run you do not have updates working.
If it runs but there are red marks you have to reinstall
the updates.
You may want to move everything out of the Download
folder to a safe place. And run MS update again.
This is a result of an *overinstall* of the OS instead on
a full fresh install.

-----Original Message-----
Since Win 98SE's original installation, I've religiously
kept up with the updates and upgrades to it and the MS
Office 2000 suite. I've always saved, not just applied
(without first saving) the downloads. I still have them
all - they're in my \Downloads\ folder, along with quite

a
few others.

After reinstalling WIN 98SE (original 1999 SE CD), I went
to MS's update site and let it check my installation for
needed updates. Other than foreign language support, and
Outlook Express updates, (I don't use either), the
download list was empty .. suggesting I am completely up
to date.

I guess MS examined my Registry to see what I'd already
downloaded and applied. But, obviously, my new
installation has none of these applied, yet. I guess I

was
expecting the reinstallation process to clear the updates
list from my Registry.

How do I get MS to tell me which of the locally-present
updates I need to apply, and in which sequence?

Thanks, Jim
