As I think I may have said in my earlier post, I agree with you 100% here.
I only mentioned the KB as being a possible reason for the rather odd
scandisk error message.

.. I was amused to see that it has been updated
and now has as the suggested solution "upgrade
your Windows operating system to Microsoft
Windows XP or later. etc., .."
And that was updated 2 years ago!! Things soon become obsolete in
this business. (Remind me to tell you about my 1yr -10m old 40" LCD
TV)
