Cheers indeed! 3 days sun & 80F degrees kept me outside instead of at the PC.

For fixing the video I deleted the entries in the Device Manager in
Safe Mode and then let Win Me redetect the hardware

I did the system restore check you suggested below and it worked like a
charm--no errors at all when i restored the shortcut. I also just checked
back to Sept 30th and those restore point still exist too.

Mouse - When I run msconfig & check the tab for sys.ini, I don't have any
entries referencing the mouse.drv and no section that refers to [386Enh]. ??

System Restore.
May I strongly suggest you try the following very quick check.
a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file.
b) Create a manual checkpoint
c) Delete the shortcut
d) Restore you PC to the checkpoint you created.
Was the shortcut restored? Did you see any error messages?

Mouse.
The file, as I think you know, is system.ini.
What entries are there referring to your mouse and in which sections?
Normally I would expect to see entries referring to mouse.drv in both the
[boot.description] section (not that I think this section is very
important) and more importantly the section [386Enh].

Well done! Your post really is good news. Thanks for sticking with me,
I'm just sorry that I didn't get you up and running sooner

I'm back in action with Win Me in normal mode & fixed the video
graphics as you instructed below. whew!

Which method please? By deleting the entries in the Device Manager in
Safe Mode and then letting Win Me redetect your hardware or by downloading
and installing new drivers? Enquiring minds and all that. :-)

Stick with it as I think we are nearly there. Note though that it is just
gone 2 a.m. here in London, UK so may well be going to bed soon so if you
post back I probably won't reply for 10-12 hours.

Cheers,

Now, for my Microsoft Intellimouse, I checked the sys.ini section in
the boot folder and there is no reference there at all for the
mouse.drv=Microsoft
The only items listed are 2 unchecked boxes for *Displayfallback=0

I'm afraid to do anything more with system restore. However i just
created a manual restore point for today.

YAY!
