Default Strange memory/NIC problem

To Ron B.: I could try a separate NIC card. I have several handy. I
guess I haven't 'cause I bought a m/b that's suppose to have one on it and I
want it to work! I'm sure you know how I feel. However I may do the separate
NIC thing if keeping the memory at 768MB does not provide a temporary fix.
Brian A.: It appears MSI changed the MS-6728 since I bought mine in Feb.
I positively have an Intel 82547EI IC on my motherboard. It is also
specified as such in the manual. The only NIC/LAN software provided with the
m/b was for the Intel Gigabyte Network Adapter. Now they use RealTek.
The'board designation has also changed from FIS2R to PFISR. As for the
memory
,http://www.msi.com.tw/program/produc...detail.php?UID
=528 shows the modules I have as "qualifed". I realize that page is now for
the PFISR 'board but it was the same when I bought my 'board. I do have my
voltage set to 2.65v. and I let the timings be set automatically.
I thank you both very much for your effort and info. Please, let me know
if you think of anything else.

Regards,
Wayne R.

That's an Intel chipset (865PE) and for what I find at the Kingston site on
the board memory, you have the incorrect RAM. Kingston modules for the MSI
865PE Neo2-FIS2R (MS-6728):
http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/conf...bmit1 =Search

I believe you are using HyperX modules as well and MSI has a warning on
memory:

Main Memory
Supports 4 unbuffered DIMM of 2.5 Volt DDR SDRAM
Supports up to 4GB memory size with non-ECC
Supports Dual Channel DDR266/333/400/433/466/500/533MHz and up
Due to the High Performance Memory design, motherboards or system
configurations may or may not operate smoothly at the JEDEC (Joint Electron
Device Engineering Council) standard settings (BIOS Default on the
motherboard) such as DDR voltage, memory speeds and memory timing. Please
confirm and adjust your memory setting in the BIOS accordingly for better
system stability.
Example: Kingston HyperX DDR500 PC4000 operates at 2.65V, 3-4-4-8, CL=3.
For more information about specification of high performance memory modules,
please check with your Memory Manufactures for more details.

And for what I see MSI mentions of the integrated LAN:
LAN
RealtekŪ 8110S
Integrated Fast Ethernet MAC and PHY in one chip
Supports 10Mb/s, 100Mb/s and 1000Mb/s
Compliance with PCI 2.2
Supports ACPI Power Management

For all the info needed on the board from MSI:
http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p...PFISR&class=mb

For info on it from Intel start he
http://www.intel.com/sites/support/i...header_support

and Realtek for S&G's:

How can a network adapter(NIC) affect or be affected by the amount of
memory recognized by Windows? I have 1GB of memory consisting of a

matched
set of Kingston KHX3500 512MB DRAM's. The m/b is a MSI 865PE Neo2
FIS2R(MS-6728). The NIC is built-in and uses the Intel 82547EI chip.

Vcache
is limited in System.ini to 512MB.
If I disable the NIC in BIOS I can boot with no memory limit set. With
the NIC enabled in BIOS and installed for use in Windows the boot hangs at
"Starting Windows 98". If I limit the memory to 768MB through Msconfig I

can
boot fine with the NIC ready to use. I've had the memory up to 819MB

before
hanging repeatedly. With the NIC enabled in BIOS but NOT installed in
Windows I have no problem.
Other than memory, what could cause this? I don't have another GB of
memory sitting around to be able to swap. I did switch them around, but it
made no difference. I've Googled the 'net and newsgroups and found nothing
to help with this strange problem. I e-mailed MSI a month or so ago and

they
were no help(they did answer.) Different drivers don't matter either. I
would really appreciate any ideas.

Thanking all in advance,
Wayne R.
