Default WIN98 Hangs Up in Attempt to Load

Donald Chick wrote:
I have WIN98SE on partition C:, WINXP on partition D:, and misc on
partion E: WINXP and WIN98SE both worked fine until I unplugged all
external
cables and had more RAM added by the store that I bought the computer
from. When I reconneted the computer WIN98SE only had 16 colors. As I
tried to add display drivers from the Intel CD that came with the computer
loaded something I shouldn't have. Now WIN98 startup hangs up when it
attempts to start, I select Safe Mode and it starts with two WIN98
screens then
finally gets to a cyan screen with a picket fence like pattern at the top.
Nothing further happens. I can reset, select WINXP and it works
fine.
I believe the chipset includes the display card equivaltent. I think
that if I could load a generic display driver that I could then manage to
load the correct display driver. I am also confused about whether both
the video card and the display need drivers.

I have WIN98 on another computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don

How much RAM do you now have? Win98 has trouble with more than 512MB in
some cases but mostly above 768MB.
