RTS,

Did you run the Repair for IE/OE with the AntiVirus program enabled ?
The issue may just be that the ActiveX controls were damaged/corrupted.
Suggest you try this first. Show hidden files, folders, and system
files: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html
When you're online, navigate to the WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files
folder. Locate the Update Class file, right click it, and choose Update.
Try Windows Update if the ActiveX updates. If it doesn't :

For Windows 98 and Windows Millenium Edition:
download the controls from

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...ansi/iuctl.cab and

save them to your desktop. Extract the .cab file following the steps

below:

1. Go to the desktop and right click the iuctl.cab file.
2. Click "Extract to."
3. Point to a known location (like the desktop) and click "OK."
4. Go to the location you selected and right click on the iuctl.inf

file.

5. Click "Install."

The Windows Update Troublshooter has these 2 other resolutions :

Install the latest scripting engine 5.6 from:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...ist/webdev.asp

Suggestion 2:

Repair Internet Explorer

1. Open up Control Panel.
2. Open Add/remove programs.
3. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools.
4. Click Add/remove.
5. Click Repair.
6. Follow the steps provided by the Repair Wizard.
7. Click OK

Thanks for the reply MowGreen,
I checked the Windows Update.log and there are no errors listed till

way

back in Oct 05.
I did the regsvr32 on both dll's you listed..
Just retried the windows scan on the MS website but it still doesn't

work..

(website loads scan button appears but when I click on the scan button

the

page changes to the scan page but stays on 0% complete..)

Must be something else causing the problem..

Thanks, RTS

RTS,

Check the Windows Update.log located in the WINDOWS directory for
possible error code(s). The latest entries are located at the bottom of
the log. Post back with the section containing the error code(s),

please.

In the meantime, try reregistering these .dll files. Go to Start, Run,
type or copy&paste into Open:

regsvr32 msxml.dll

Click OK.

Do the same for jscript.dll.
