Reinstalling Win98SE

My son have a Win98SE machine was runnuig very
well until sometime.
I try to rvive it but found lot of errors and
crashes. It could load into safe mode but as soon as a key or a mouse is
touched it could
LOCKUP all Keyboard mouse and Cntrl+Alt+Delete and the result was to turn
it
off from switch.
I refomated the hd and try to install Win98
but the setup could go only up
"Copying Files" and got LOCKUP all again.
If during the this process i touch the keyboard
or move mouse around, it gets lockup.
I tried to setup win311 just to check it.
It was ok upto the Disk 5 when it ask you
to select a printer. When I touched the
keyboard it Lockedup all.

The scandisk found nothing even in surface
checking. It works a bit in Dos mode.
It can be started on the floppy disk or hd.

Is it a hd problem or else?

Any advice appreciated,
