CD-Rom & CD-RW see contents as blank!
A strange problem.
I attempted to install a D-Link USB 2.0 PCI card & on boot WIN 98SE did not see new hardware as expected. Inserted D- Link CD & both my LG CD burner & generic CD-rom showed the CD as blank. But in Properties the Volume correctly showed the name & size of the contents. Tried other CDs, including ones burned on the LG....same results. On the assumption that the USB card may have caused problem...removed it, rebooted...same!! Removed & reinstalled CD-ROM & burner...same! Reinstalled IDE controller...same! Checked for viruses, trojans, spyware, adware...same! Temporarily connected old hard drive that had been in system previously....both CD-ROMs worked fine!!! Since both CD-ROMs work, I'm assuming that that something was corrupted...but what? I even burned a CD and I could access the files on other computers, but not on the one that burned it. Any suggestions would be appreciated! P.S. This has been going on for more than a week & on some days(I shut down each day) 1 CD drive will "see" my Win 98SE installation CD....But not today!! |

If so, and you choose 'boot to dos with cdrom', can you access the CD? |
CD-Rom & CD-RW see contents as blank!
Forgot to mention: 1.I can access CDs from DOS using WIN 98 Startup disk. 2.After 1 boot-up Windows Explorer showed all folders in C: as blank....but gave size of contents?? But after reboot Windows Explorer worked fine!! Is there a connection? I tried fix that was in earlier post in reply to Patreply but made no difference. |
