WIN98 Hangs Up in Attempt to Load

I have WIN98SE on partition C:, WINXP on partition D:, and misc on partion
E: WINXP and WIN98SE both worked fine until I unplugged all external
cables and had more RAM added by the store that I bought the computer from.
When I reconneted the computer WIN98SE only had 16 colors. As I tried to
add display drivers from the Intel CD that came with the computer loaded
something I shouldn't have. Now WIN98 startup hangs up when it attempts to
start, I select Safe Mode and it starts with two WIN98 screens then finally
gets to a cyan screen with a picket fence like pattern at the top. Nothing
further happens. I can reset, select WINXP and it works fine.

I believe the chipset includes the display card equivaltent. I think that
if I could load a generic display driver that I could then manage to load
the correct display driver. I am also confused about whether both the video
card and the display need drivers.

I have WIN98 on another computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don

How much RAM do you now have? Win98 has trouble with more than 512MB in
some cases but mostly above 768MB.

In addition to telling us how much RAM was added and what your total RAM is now,
please tell us what it was from the CD that you "loaded but shouldn't have."

I place my money on the RAM, but no one will know for sure until the total RAM installed is provided.

Yes I keep reading that sentence and still don't know what the "something I
shouldn't have" is. He tried to add display drivers form the CD, and apparently
also loaded the "something," according the the sentence syntax.

WIN98 Hangs Up in Attempt to Load

I had 256MB and now have 4 x 256MB.
I loaded drivers from the Intel Express Install CD for Intel Desktop
Boards D865GBF and D865GLC which came with my computer.
I think that I loaded drivers 1. Intel chipset INF Update, 2. Analog
Devices "SoundMax" Cadenze, 3. Intel PRO Net Connection 8, 4. Native
Storage Patch for Microsoft Windows XP, and 5. Intel Extreme Graphics 2
Driver which all said "In System" and now say Not Installed".

I do not know how to load any of them now as Window 98SE won't start.
I still have Window XP though. Thanks.

Pull out 3 of the sticks so you can get Win98 running. Once you do, here's
some steps on how to manage that much memory in Win98. Lots more he
