Andrew[_2_]
My 160GB Western Digital (48-bit LBA), PATA hard disk (the only HD I have on
this machine) is for a reason partitioned as follows:
C: (Win98se, primary, 14.5GB), * (WinXP, primary, 30.6GB), D: (logical,
11.8GB), E: (logical, 7.6 GB) and * (unallocated, primary, 87.5 GB).

Peggy A
I am trying to help a friend get her data from an old hard drive after her
motherboard died. This drive is from a 6-7 year old Gateway PC and it has the
older parallel connector, so I tried to add it as a second drive in an older
Dell Dimension XPS Pro PC running Windows 98 SE. I attached the...

KT7A-RAID + 300GB Maxtor + Win98SE = no joy :( by
MalcolmO
The drive was aggressively priced; I had to have it.
I was fairly certain that my old Win98SE system wouldn't do the 300GB.
But I went to the Abit site and, after a few false starts, I managed to
flash my BIOS up to the 7N version. This is said to recognize drives
over 137GB.
Went into the...

How to "turn up" my Maxtor HDD transfer rate by
ernie
Not strictly a Windows 98 issue but here it is:
I have a Quantum Fireball 541 which transfers data at a very slow rate
according to HdTach.
Is there a utility for turning the rate up to the expected rate that I can
download, I have powermax but it does not include this function and neither
does...

Not sure what the potential problem is with ScanDisk+Win98SE+
Big Drives
First, understand that there are 2 scandisk's. One is the DOS
scandisk (scandisk.exe) and the second is Windows scandisk
(scandskw.exe + diskmaint.dll). Then there is defrag (AKA windows
defrag).

I want to purchase a 160GB HDD to use with a new ABIT NF7
v2 motherboard (supports LBA45). The motherboard will
support the 160GB HDD (No hardware limit on HDD). Will

need to upgrade PowerQuest PartitionMagic 7.0 - please help by
Adam
My system is running Win98SE.
I have PowerQuest PartitionMagic 7.0 installed.
I just bought a 80 GB HDD (Seagate ST3200822A),
which exceeds PM7's capabilities. So, I need to
either upgrade to or buy PM8. But, due to
Symantec and PowerQuest's deal, I hear people are

I'd like to find out from those win98se users who are using HDDs of
over 120gb capacity. I have a Seagate Barracuda 160gb HDD which I've
been using fairly happily until the last few weeks when FAT corruption
occurs a bit too frequently for my liking. Firstly I've tried the
