1. how to get rid of "suspend" 2. a GREAT utility (no, not for IE) by thanatoid
1. I was playing around with my Win95B machine and I saw there is no more-than-useless "suspend" item on the stupid start menu. I can't remember how I got rid of it, I can't figure out how to do it, so I can't get rid of it on my 98SEL machine. Does anyone know how? 2.

destorying the hard drive by Jim Madsen
My daughter has an old Gateway computer running Windows 98. She says no one wants it because it is slow and obsolete and she wants to turn it into the local recycling place. She is worried about (personal) data on the hard drive. I wonder if reformatting the HD will destroy all the data? My...

Critical Updates? by John
In the news today it was announced that all Windows OS's, back to W98, need critical security updates installed. Going to the Microsoft site, I don't see any updates for W98 - they all seem to be for XP, ME, 2000 etc. Any suggestions? John A wise monkey is a monkey who doesn't monkey

New HDD, has corrupted Data - AGAIN by [email protected]
Ok, As most of you know, I had a partition go bad on one of my drives and I lost much of the data on it, because I did not have a current backup. I got rid of that hard drive, even after a re-format showed it to be usable and not have bad sectors. This is an old IBM brand computer from about 2001....

Since the update website does not work mostly any more and all updates have to be collected by hand somewhere, I just came over the problem of updating the standard root certificates in w98se. The MS sais that the update is for all above w95, but how to download the upload and where? I tried to...

Daylight Saving Time Adjustment by ms
Back in 2007, when Gary Terhune was active here, I installed the "Grystmill Unofficial Time Zones Update" for W98. At the time it seemed OK, but I've noticed, and particularly this recent DST adjustment, I have to adjust the time manually, and no longer on cold boot get the usual windows...

Wiindows Updates -- Part 1, Win98 Gold by Gary S. Terhune
Several people have asked recently about various Windows Updates. Like how many have been issued since the Windows Updates Security CD was released, how many of Win98 Gold's patches were subsumed into Win98SE, etc. There are two major difficulties in this experiment. First, you can't get...
