Follow-up from the original poster by
Chiropter
Thanks a lot for those who tried to help me. Here is the history of what
happened next.
First, to follow Ben's suggestion, I yesterday downloaded Max Power and
tested the problem disk. To my surprise, it passed all the test and thus
it appears the disk does not bear any problem as far as Maxtor...

Windows 98 Start up by
Frustrated Dad!!
I have a PC that runs Windows 98. My son has deleted some files (he doesn't
know which ones) and consequently now when the PC starts up it has an error
message on screen "Invalid system disk - Replace the disk and then press any
key".
I've tried to reinstall Windows 98 but with no success. Would...

Windows 98 bootup by

I have an old PC running Windows 98 that I've moved to the basement for my
young daughter to play games on. Somehow, she created a password protection
that comes up during the boot up process but we don't know what the password
is. I can't get past this password and get the computer to...

win98 ignores my gateway setting by
aurgathor
On my local network there are 2 DHCP servers,
one good, and one bad I can neither disable nor
remove as it's in a switch. I set "gateway" pointing
to the good DHCP server, yet Win98 still goes to
the bad one and gets its DHCP IP from there.
Is there any way to tell Win98 to go to a specific
DHCP...

I'm trying to reinstall Win98 on my roomate's P66.
A long time ago I copied the necessary files to a
separate partition, so everything is supposed to be
there. However, during setup I get the following:

Slave drive is not recognized by Windows Explorer? by
chiropter
My platform is Win 98. Until recently I had no problem to see the
content of the secondary HDD (slave, Maxtor) connected to the same
ribbon cable as the primary HDD(also Maxtor). Now Windows Explorer does
not show the second HDD. I checked Bios which is set to autodetect the
secondary (slave) as...

A puzzler by
[email protected]
After repeated queries and replies here I have been connected to the
internet on my ThinkPad 770 via a PCMCIA Xircom combo modem/NIC. Only a
few days ago I discovered that in the ThinkPad Configuration utility
PCMCIA shows that it is turned off.
Any suggestions why this still works?

WIN98 > WIN98SE by
Christopher
I have WIN98 OEM on an IBM Aptiva Desktop.
I have WIN98SE OEM on an IBM Thinkpad Laptop.
Is there any reason why the WIN98SE should not work on the Desktop ?
My reason for asking is that a number of applications seem to have 98SE as a
minimum requirement.

Dual-boot Win 98 + Win 3.1, without 2 partitions? by
Chaos Master
Hello.
I wish to dual-boot Windows 98 + Windows 3.1, but I don't want to work
with partitioning my hard drive. Windows 98 is installed in a FAT32
partition - ~850MB.
I thought about the following:
- Windows 98 in C:\WINDOWS
- Windows 3.1 in C:\WIN311

Microsoft messenger by
killjoy
Generally if I am not doing much on the PC my CPU usage is around the 30%
mark and remains some what similiar if I close Microsoft messenger.
However if I then exit Microsoft messenger from my tray the usage goes up
to 90% and stays at that level unless I open it again. Any suggestions ?
