when i try to minimize explorer or outlook the window
closes rather than being minimized. thank you

Just a WAG since there is once cause of this behaviour that is so old and
therefore fairly well known and which has been picked up by most decent
antivirus applications and the like for the last six or eight months but .....

Have you perhaps received and opened a copy of the FriendsGreeting worm? If
so in addition to sending unsolicited e-mails and further copies of itself to
everyone in your address book it also has the unpleasant side effect you are
seeing of removing minimised applications from the task bar. More information
on this worm and how to remove it may be obtained from the sites listed below.

When I minimize anything it disappears. I went to help and
they said to click on my taskbar and click on Minimize all
windows. Mine isn't highlighted in order to click on it.

their reference signatures have been updated sometime in the last six or eight
months but .....
