View Full Version : Sounds Properties dialog box

I no longer have the Sounds Properties dialog box in control panel. I
still have sounds, but would like to have Sounds Properties dialog box
back in control panel. Would anyone know how I can get it back and what
may have taken it away?

Click Start> Settings> Folder Options> View tab,
uncheck the "Hide file extensions for known file types" checkbox.
Check the "Show all files" box.
Click OK.

Now search the Windows\System folder for files with the .CPL extension.

The Sounds control panel applet (and also Multimedia) use "mmsys.cpl", so see if
that file is there. If it is not, extract a new copy using the 'Extract one file'
option of System File Checker (SFC).
