I have purchased a DVD burner which states that it
requires Windows2000 or XP, has anyone installed a burner
on windows ME and is there anything I need to do like to
upgrade to 2000 or XP?

thanks, John

John,

DVD burners can be installed on Win Me without problem. What is possible is
that the software that came with your DVD writer cannot be installed on Win Me
in which case you might want to consider using alternative software. This
leads me to asking what software is included with the DVD?

John,

I'm sorry but these are peer to peer newsgroups and I am unable to provide
e-mail support.

I haven't been able to find out any useful information on the Medion MD42064
DVD writer from the various Medion web sites I've been looking at so have no
idea as to why they might be saying that it can only be installed on systems
running W2K or XP. To be honest that makes no sense to me whatsoever. How is
this drive connected to the PS? Is it an external drive using a protocol not
natively available as part of Win Me such as usb2 or firewire 800? If an
internal drive that connects to the motherboard's IDE controller, make sure
you have it jumpered correctly (maser, slave or cable select as appropriate).
Is the DVD writer recognised by the bios? In the Device Manager? In Explorer?

I installed a dvd burner and have ME and XP installed in a
dual boot configuration. My burner works fine on both
systems. If it does not work you might have to find the
drivers for the burner online.
