i have used the quick restore c,d, two times the last few
days. i get an error message of an exception oe has
occured at 0028; IT MAY BE POSSIBLE TO CONTINUE. IT SAYS I
INSTALLED WINDOWS ME ON WHICH I HAVE INSTALLED A VIRUS
PROTECTION SOFTWARE. I DONT THINK SO. I WAS JUST USING THE
QUICK RESTORE TO GET MY SCAN DISK AND SYSTEM RESTORE AND
DEFRAGGER TO GET WORKING AGAIN. HELP. THANKS

Using the quick Restore CD is likely
1) not to have repaired the defragger
2) to have broken System Restore - if it wasn't already broken
3) to have uninstalled all the other patches you installed from Windows
Update

lets fix SR first

It's possible that you haven't installed the System Restore Patch - without
which any current restore points are just space fillers.
To check this, look for the file C:\Windows\System\SMGR.DLL - r-click on the
file, and select Properties.
What's the version number? - if it's v4.90.0.3003 then you have installed
the patch, and we have to look elsewhere for the problem
if it's v4.90.0.2533, then you need to install the patch.

To install the patch, go here, and download the patch for offline install
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q290700
Run the installer, and windows should reset System Restore at the same time,
clearing your old restore points (which wouldn't have worked, anyhow), and
creating a single new one.

Then download Belarc Advisor from www.belarc.com and run it - post back with
the list of broken patches that it'll show, and we'll work on them.

post back with your results

The virus scanner warning is possibly because either
a) you had an anti-virus scanner installed when you used the CD
b) you had the BIOS virus protection installed - which prevent changes to
the Master Boot Record of the HD (not critical in this case, as you're
reinstalling ME over itself)
