View Full Version : Adding a second (large) hard drive

I have a happily working WinME system, with a 20GB hard
drive. When I add a second drive (in this case 160GB, but
the same was true of 80GB), the BIOS happily finds it,
but WinME doesn't seem to realise it exists. Has anyone
got a fix for this?

If unformatted, WinMe won't recognise it. You must FDISK and Format a new
disk in DOS before WinMe will see it.

Take a look at the following KB article, "How to Use the Fdisk Tool and the
Format Tool to Partition or Repartition a Hard Disk"

If you ever find out the answer to this, could you let me
know? Cause I don't see any answers in here to anything!
But.. I have also installed a new hard drive, 120 gig to a
40 gig. I had bought a control card for this. But the
control card driver halts my system if winMe should use
it.. so instead it chooses not to. So that's what I am
looking for here.. is to find out if maybe WinMe is saying
that I don't need the extra driver that comes with this
promise ultra 133 TX2 (tm) IDE controller.WinMe has
something called ASD and the properties to just sort of
file this driver away, yet not use it. I just don't know
if thats what I should do or not now. Cause in the device
manager it's got the yellow exlamation mark on it. I want
to get rid of that.

Your situation is entirely different to the OP's - please stick to your own
thread, where I've posted a response.
