I had a virus infection that caused two (2) files
c:\windows\system\MGRS.exe and C:\Windows\System\led.exe
to become infected. I also had to delete
c:\Windows\system\scchost.exe. I deleted all the files
and the Virus problem went away, but now my CD/DVD drive
will not work. How can i reinstall the two files from my
CD-ROM disc if I can't get my CD/DVD drive to work? Or is
something else wrong? I need help

None of the files you deleted were part of the Win Me operating system. They
_were_ the virus.

led.exe is the W32.Led is a mass mailing worm
)
scchost.exe is the W32.HLLW.Donk worm
(http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.hllw.donk.html)

I have no idea what the file MGRS.exe might be but it isn't part of the Win Me
operating system and I can find no reference to a file of this name using
Google.

Returning to your problem. Boot to Safe Mode, open the Device Manager and
delete all entries in the CD-ROM and HardDisk Controllers sections (assuming
you CD/DVD drive is internal and connected to an IDE controller and not a
parallel, firewire, scsi or usb device). Reboot back into Normal Mode and let
Win Me redetect your hardware and reinstall the necessary drivers. If that
still doesn't work then open the Device manager and post back details of any
error messages you see (devices with a yellow "bang").
