I have lost the sound of the modem during connection. I
Used to hear dial tone, beeps and boops during
handshaking, and then it would go quiet when connection
was made. Now I hear nothing. Don't know when it stopped
working. Have checked Volume Controls and all sliders are
all the way up, no Mute boxes checked. Seems to me I
remember an option in earlier systems where you could
specify Modem connection sounds - either off or on during
connection - or on all the time. Think this is what I
need but don't knowwhere to find it.

Thanks for any help...

Modem volume isn't really a Windows parameter, the sound comes out of a
little speaker on the modem itself, therefore you have to go to the
Modem to set the volume.

I'm operating blind here with no modem installed, maybe somebody who
does can check me on this ...

If you go to ...
ControlPanel/System/DeviceManager (View by Type)
and open the Properties sheet for your Modem, there may be a setting for
Modem Volume as Low, High or Off.

Thanks, Rick. I have tried
ControlPanel/System/DeviceManager
and can find no settings regarding modem speaker settings
or sound.. Anybody else have an idea?

If you have a speaker jack on the back of your modem try
using headphones. If not you may have a bad speaker inside
the computer.
