I ran scandisk on my friends computer. He then restarted
it and got an I/O error in the Subdirectory........etc
The solution from Microsoft requires you to be in safe
mode, but we are unable to get into safe mode to run
MSconfig. Does anyone know another way to limit the
amount of memory used on the start up with ME, without
being able to get into safe mode?

You can DL ScanFrag and run it as it auto runs in Safe Mode

You can reboot and tap the F8 key | Safe Mode

To get into SafeMode, when you can't seem to time the <F8> or <Ctrl>
right at startup.....

Start/Run/msconfig.exe/General/Advanced/EnableStartupMenu

The text menu should come up on your next boot. You can run scandisk
from there too.
