Starting Windows

When starting Windows, before my PC gets to the Desktop
screen it sometimes freezes on a plain black screen with a
flshing cursor in the top left hand corner. How can I stop
this?

Can you boot to Safe Mode?
If so, try a System Restore to a date not more than a week ago, when the
system worked OK.
