Hi to all,
Recently i downloaded some games from a website. When
i installed them, and then tried to open it a message
poped up and said the following-"Could no find any
compatible Direct3D devices. This sample willnow exit."
It is really frustrating since i spent forever downloading
them and now they don't work. Does this mean i need to
find an update on the internet to download? Any help
would be greatly appreciated. Thanx in advance.

If you downloaded DirectX 9.0b you must have a compatible video card to use
its features.

Jerry,
Thanx for writing back. I am not really "savy" with
computers but i went to system in the control panel and
under device manager i found what i think is the graphics
card-Intel(r) 82810E Graphics Controller 4.12.01.2604-i
have no idea if that will support directX 9.0b. Will it?
Or did i find the wrong thing. If so where do i find out
what kind of video card i have? Thanx again.

Just because a graphics chipset won't support some DX9 functions,
doesn't mean you shouldn't install DX9. Quite the opposite.

Whether you have a videocard (that supplants the integrated video) on
your board is a matter of looking to see where the monitor cable is
plugged in.

So all that i do is look in the back of my computer and
see what the name of the video card is? Also, could you
give me the link for the place where i can get directX
9.0b? One more thing, just so i don't have to keep
pestering you with questions, :-) is there an easy way i
can tell if my video card will support directX 9.0b?
Thanks a ton!!

Unless it's brand spankin' new (and even then...), it won't support some
of the latest functions of DX9.

Why you're taking the time to ask if "all I have to do is look in the
back of my computer..." instead of actually looking is beyond me, and
that wasn't what I said in my previous reply to you, anyways.

ControlPanel/Display/Settings should have a little line about halfway
down the page saying what your monitor and display card are.

Type
directx
into your browser's address bar to get M$'s URL for DX. If you're going
to run recentish games, you should have (and in most cases must have)
DX9 installed, whether your graphics card supports some functions or not.

"pester" away; I always have the option of ignoring you.
:)

Run the program DxDiag and it will tell you what is and is not compatible on
your system. (It is found in the \windows\system32 directory.)

Did you try what Jerry suggested?

Start/Run/dxdiag.exe
