Noel,

It looks like he gave you the latest release number of ZA. ;)

After less than a day of the latest ZA, I've gone back to version 4.5.xxx.
Initially there didn't appear to be any problems, but I then started having
a number of system instabilities such as application freezes and BSODs.
Since going back to the previous version, all of the instabilities have
disappeared.

Hi Tom......

Seems to be a lot of problems being reported by those with McAfee in
particular......on the antivirus ng......I am beginning to be sorry I
mentioned this new version.....grin.

And remember what I said (many times).......Zone Alarm 'beta tests' its new
stuff on the unsuspecting public. It always has bugs in it.....so I always
stay one or two versions back......

Hi, Heather,

I've never had a problem with ZA updates in the past, so I didn't hesitate
installing the latest release. In this case, I would agree that ZA is beta
testing it's product. BTW, a system restore wouldn't get me back to the
previous setup. I had to undo the restore, uninstall ZA 5, and remove all
of the ZA 5 leftovers before installing the 4.5.xxx version. The one good
outcome is that I now have a clean ZA installation. If anyone is
considering upgrading to ZA 5, I'd recommend a clean installation rather
than an upgrade installation. It's also advisable to turn off any real-time
AV monitoring.

Cheers,
Tom

TomV,
I got my notice of the update availability yesterday.....declined, of
course. Thanks for submitting your info. ZA (ZAPro for me) is a good
product, but, they seem overly anxious to get new versions to the
public.......kinda like they want us to do the Beta testing for them. I
guess that isn't too bad for the freebie, but, one would expect more from
the $$$ version.
Heirloom, old and think I'll wait a while longer

Ah - that makes a LOT more sense!<g> Freebie? - The reason I ask is that
AFAIK, the paid-for version should have a tell-tale inside it somewhere that
is supposed to inform the operating system - XP SP2 only at present - (and
anything else??) that there is an AV installed, and which one it is. The
free version doesn't have this tag - which is probably why ZA doesn't see it
until the last minute<g>
