I have a number of files that are numbered and listed
under "File" in Microsoft Word that I am not able to delete
When I try to delete them, I get an error message
telling me to check for the location of the file
The files are listed as follows in Word

1-C:\windows\My Documents\*******

I cannot find the files in my documents

because they aren't there... you already deleted them but they're still
showing up in Word's Most Recent Used list because... well because
they're the most recently accessed files whether or not they still
exist, Word doesn't care. (This is a more useful feature if you use
removable media like floppy disks or CDRs, of course). As to how to get
rid of them, no idea (I haven't got Word installed) but there's probably
an easier way than opening up the registry and taking the relevant MRU
keys out... look for a "Clear Most Recent File List" or "File List Size"
(change to zero then back again) Option or Preference or Tool.

Or try MRU Blaster from the following site......I use it sometimes, but it
has features I don't want, so uninstalled it. I prefer to keep some of the
things it deletes.

Unless you want the latest files in the list, just turn the list off. If
you need it, then try going to Windows | Recent | and then delete all the
files in the folder. View | Select all and hit delete key. If you can't
find the Recent, as it is a hidden folder, then go to Windows Explorer |
Tools | Folder Options | View and check the Show Hidden files and folders
radio button. Then go back to Windows and find the Recent folder. Then View
| Select all | then hit delete key.

This will delete all files that you have opened or accessed recently. If you
have not cleared this file in some time, you might do so now and then. :-)
