Hi A family member of mines has Windows Me they turned
it off one night and now it will not come back on it
powers up and runs a bios check then it displays a
message "Verifying DMI Pool Data" then on a black screen
it displays "Disk I\O error" "Replace the disk and then
press and key" then if I hit enter I get "disk boot
failure, insert system disk and press enter" I've make a
ME boot disk and I have cold booted with that and it went
through lots of things then displayed on a black
screen "A:\" and if I hit enter I get the A:\ again what
should I do keep in mined they didn't have an updated
version of mcafee virus on this PC

Sounds like your Hard Drive is failing, see:- "Error
Message "Verifying DMI Pool Data" Occurs and the Computer
Is Unavailable" http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;287553 Try running scandisk in Real Mode
DOS, booting from your Win Me Startup (floppy) Disk.
Select option 4) Minimal and at the A:\> prompt, type:
scandisk c: Then press return. (Note the space between
the k and the c and note the colon : after the c) If it
will let you, progress with the tests (depends how bad
the disk is). If errors are reported and scandisk offers
to repair, decline - and also decline a surface scan.
Treat the disk with caution and hope that you will able
to read and copy your important files at a later time.
Only attempt any further testing if/when you can afford
to lose any data. (Urgent preparation for 'sods' Law is
strongly recommended) Good luck Mart

I've don't that scandisk and this is what I got please
inform Me on what this means
Data error while reading the SAT
Disk error prevents scandisk from fixing this drive
There are still errors on this drive view log or exit
and I tried to view log and got this
Scandisk didn't perform any test File system surface
scan
File allocation no problems
There are still errors on drive c

Please advise on what to do know

Thanx Martin

Martin,

Please stick to the original thread - I've given a fuller explanation there.
