I am operating on Windows ME. For several weeks, on boot-
up, I get this message: "RUNDLL. Error loading
C:\WINDOWS\IMAGE.DLL. One of the library files needed to
run this application cannot be found." I click OK (the
only option) and the computer seems to boot up normally.
In the weeks that this has occurred, all applications seem
to be working properly except "McAfee Virus Scan"
and "AutoRun."

I've gone to a website to download <Image.dll> and pasted
it in several logical places, but the boot-up message
doesn't go away. Do I have a problem? If so, how should
I solve it?

Win Me contains no file image.dll.

Image.dll is, or rather was, part of a commercial parasite and I can only
assume that when cleaning your PC using AdAware, SpyBot or some other cleaner
it left an entry in the registry that is attempting to launch this malware
whenever you boot your PC.

Have a look at http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.iefeats.html
which describes what Symantec refer to as Adware.Iefeats which uses a
image.dll file. This is a variant of the odious CoolWebSearch and possibly
the easiest way of removing this offensive parasite is to use merijn's
CWShredder.

CWShredder can be downloaded from either:
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip
or
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/cwshredder.zip
