I have Windows ME and I'm apparently missing a DLL file.
I'm trying to follow the instructions I've found here,
using the system restoration kit, which is waht I'm
supposed to be using for this, but it's not working.

I'm in D:\DOS>ext.

It then asks, "Please enter the path to the WIndows CAB
files (a:)

After I do the file and destination path, the following
error message comes up, "ERROR: Cannot open file:
drive:\win9x(null)

Anyone know how to deal with this?

What file are you trying to replace? Where are your cab files located? What
path are you entering into the Extract Command Line Helper (ext)?

KB 129605 - "HOW TO: Extract Original Compressed Windows Files"
KB 265371 - "How to Extract and Replace a Protected File in Windows Me"
KB 259687 - "Unable to Extract Files Using the System Configuration Utility"
KB 267465 - "Unable to Extract Cabinet Files to Certain Locations"

You probably have the .cab files on your boot drive (C:\) and may not need
to use the original installation disk. What file are you looking for?
Heirloom, old and it may be there

Randy- apparently we are in the same boat. I was trying
to download a windows update. When re-booting an error
message comes up saying I am missing a DLL file and to
reload windows. What?????? What do I do now?

What dll file? With so little information it is doubtful that anyone will be
able to help you. If you want help it is essential that you post full details
of what changes you made to your system prior to the problem starting and full
details of all and any error messages seen.
