Problem with Windows ME

I have a computer in that started out with not being able
to shut down - nothing would happen, and when clicking on
things in control panel - again nothing would happen. There
were some other problems but these stand out.

I downloaded NAV and it ran in DOS mode and found
W32/Protoride.worm and W32/Qaz.worm.gen, but could not do
anything about them.

After rebooting the only thing I found that would work was
"Folder options" in Control panel. Everytime I click on
something it says that it can not find the path to that
file. Even when I go to the folder where the .exe file is
and click on it, I get the same message. For example going
to c:\windows and click on freecell.exe the same message
comes up. I can not load or run NAV or anything else.

One message I got at sometime in all of this was - when
running explorer - popup - Vet Resident Protection Version
10.59.2.0. C:\windows\notepad.exe is Win32.Qaz.worm. Not
cleared.

What suggestions do you have?
