View Full Version : VPN and ME

I am trying to setup 2 staff at the office to connect to
the VPN from home. One is running Windows 98 and the other
is running Windows ME. They both can connect to the VPN
but when they try to map a drive they both get the same
error message:

Error Message:
The following error occurred while trying to connect to
P:\servername\foldername. Windows is unable to gain access
to the network. This could be for a number of reasons.

I think the issue is that they are not connected to the
domain. After setting up the VPN connection, when they log
onto their computer now it asks for a user name and
password which I told them to put in their network
username and password but it doesn't ask for the domain
name. Then they connect to the VPN with their VPN username
and password and it says that they are connected but when
they try to map a drive they get this error message. I
think our file server needs their computer or logon to
validate and know that it's our domain but I am not sure
what to do here.

I found a couple of things but I don't know if I am on the
right track. I searched the web and found some VPN info
from Yale University and connecting through Windows ME. It
said under the networking tab of the VPN properties - to
make sure to Uncheck "Use Default Gateway on Remote
Network" at the bottom of the page. I got of them users to
try this but this didn't work either so got her to recheck
the checkbox.

Under the security tab on the VPN properties, the user
said that there is a username and password and domain
listed there, but that is where her VPN username and
password is kept. She tried to add our domain name there,
but then she couldn't even connect to the VPN at all.

Any suggetions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Leanne
