Installing a PCMCIA network card in my 5 yr old laptop, I
encounter a problem exactly as described in Knowledge
Base article 276602.
...And, wonderful news, the article says it's a known
problem and there's a hotfix resolution.
...And, not so wonderful, it says you have to call up on
the phone to get it. When you call they say WinME is not
supported, and if you want any more information it costs
$35.
The article also says (or implies) that the fee will be
waived, but the phone answerers know nothing about this.
Apparently, all I need is this version (or later) of this
file:

Anyone know how?
