My home page has been taken over by a search engine that
creates pop-up ads for spyware removal software. I have
tried Spybot and Ad-aware to no avail. Have also tried to
reconfigure my browser with the download disc provided to
me by my IPS cable provider. Nothing seems to be working.
Can you help?

Reboot to Safe Mode and run CWShredder - to remove what is almost certainly
a variant of the CoolWebSearch hijacker.

Use CWShredder, the removal tool:

Bill,

It might help narrow down the problem if you could post details of the search
engine that has hijacked your home page. Knowing this would then help those
who might be in a position to help to tell you how to remove it.
