View Full Version : OE Searching for hyperlinks--PLEASE HELP!--

Sometimes when I have a long message in my e-mail Inbox or when downloading
multi-part posts in a newsgroup, I get this message at the bottom of the
screen --Searching for hyperlinks, followed by the percentage complete---

This really slows down my computer and makes it stutter and is generally
aggravating until the search reaches 100%. What is this function? And,
much more important, how do I turn it off? Is it doing anything really
necessary?

Thanks, please help me---

You can't but on the other hand don't display the message in the preview
window. For multi-part messages this serves no purpose.

So what is it? What's it doing? If it's not a necessary function---

What is it? You answered that yourself "Searching for hyperlinks" that's what
it is and what it is doing. So once again the fix is remarkably simple, close
the preview window when downloading binaries.

OK, went into layout menu and disabled the preview pane----

Next stupid question---

How do I view my e-mails now? :-)

No, not a stupid question at all. Much better to ask than not, the only
stupid question being the unasked question.

> How do I view my e-mails now? :-)

Either by opening (select in the header list and double click), the e-mail you
want to view or using the preview pane. The problem you are seeing only
occurs when you attempt to view messages containing binary code such as
multi-part binaries which incidentally are much better downloaded using a
client such as Forte Agent. There is no reason not to use the preview pane,
all you need to do is avoid viewing individual sections of binary multi-part
posts before you have combined them. Since there is nothing to see other than
a representation of the binary code this isn't a particularly serious loss.

Best of luck.

Oh and just one final note. You are not alone in hating the "searching for
hyperlinks" "feature". If you think you got annoyed you should have seen the
reaction of those involved in beta testing OE when this particular feature
jumped to prominence. :-)
