originally I had my laptop configured to work outside the
firewall. It had external IPs and worked perfectly. I am
trying to bring it inside the firewall. I gave it a valid
internal IP and changed the DNS and gateway settings to
those of all other PCs on the network. We use a proxy
server. As far as I can tell, the laptop is configured
with all of the proper settings. I can't get online.
Everytime I open Internet explorer I get a window that
pops up asking to send a report to microsoft, but I can't
connect to send it. I can browse the local network
without problems.
What am I missing?

Try a repair of Internet Explorer, from Add/Remove Programs.
See if that helps
