I need to restore my system to a previous time and have
just discovered that this feature didn't work too well in
Windows Me. Before I load the fix for this problem, is
there any way that the restore points can be used that may
be in the system now, or did it create any previous points?

What fix for what problem? If you mean that you do not have the 290700 patch
then no, no checkpoint that has been created since 8 Sept 2001 is of any use
to you. If however you are experiencing some other problem with system
restore then post precise details please including the text of all error
messages seen when using system restore and in what circumstances you se them.

To help you help us may I suggest you try the following quick test and post
details of any problem seen.
a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file.
b) Create a manual checkpoint
Could you create a checkpoint?
c) Delete the shortcut
d) Restore your PC to the checkpoint you created.
Was the shortcut restored? Did you see any error messages?
e) Reboot your PC
Was the checkpoint retained?

You answered my question that I, apparently, did not word
too good. I had not loaded the 290700 patch, so the
system does not contain any restore points. Thanks you
for your reply, I will load the patch for this problem.

Please Note,
The lack of the 290700 patch will not have prevented system restore from
creating checkpoints. Instead it will have prevented the creation of usable
checkpoints. However installing the 290700 patch will have reset system
restore and rebuilt its control files and hopefully that will have fixed the
problem of lack of checkpoints. I would nevertheless still strongly recommend
that you test that system restore is working correctly:

a) Create a shortcut on your desktop to a file.
b) Create a manual checkpoint
Could you create a checkpoint?
c) Delete the shortcut
d) Restore your PC to the checkpoint you created.
Was the shortcut restored? Did you see any error messages?
e) Reboot your PC
Was the checkpoint retained?
