Is the broadband connection Wanadoo? If so you need to go
to the speedtouch web site and download the latest driver
for ME for this USB connection. (I think it's version 3.1)
In addition contact Wanadoo and they will also advise to
get another upgrade from Intel/upgrade/chipsets.

To enable you to initially start the system up and get a
internet connection the following is required.

1. start system up - safe mode
2. go to remove/add programmes via the control panel
3. remove the speedtouch software
4. physicallydisconnect the modem from the pc (via the USB
port
5. restart the sytem - should startup in normal mode.
6. reinstall the speedtouch/wanadoo software
7. connect the modem to the pc with USB connection.
8. connect to the internet via the desktop speedtouch icon
and the Wanadoo icon.

If you encounter further problems send details back for
further possibilities.

Fixed it!
I just uninstalled Norton Antivirus and it booted up normally.
Now I have to install a new less troublesome AV like Avast or Grisoft.
Thanks for your replies.

Can't quite see why NAV would cause it to start in Safe Mode (if in fact it
was Safe Mode!), but NAV is notorious for causing all sorts of unexpected
conditions, especially in WinMe.

Glad you've now got it working again and thanks for the feedback - I've been
running Grisofts AVG here for the past couple of years without any problems
at all.
