View Full Version : Trouble Re-Installing WinME

My Dell Dimension L733r computer froze up on me. Friends
determined it would be best to reinstall WinME. Did that.
First thing installed was MSN (since I pay for this IP).

Second thing I did was go to Windows Updates. Many
critical updates were listed and the first installed fine.
I had to reboot and then went to Windows Updates to get
more critical updates. The second critical update
installed but gave this error:

"Ddhelp has caused an error in GDI.exe"

What happened? I thought microsoft updates were supposed
to help?

Thanks for any help you can offer me.

have other people that updates slow down and mess up your
computer. I myself would never use them again. But it's up
to you, your choice. Also when your computer freezes,
there's a few things you can do to stop the problem
without reinstalling windows. Also, how was windows
installed? Was there a format done first? If not you may
have one installed over another! Hope this helps some.

Gary,

"Never use updates".

That is a quite ridiculous and reckless policy and makes your system not only
vulnerable to malicious exploits patched by those updates but also makes you a
potential hazard to other users of the net.

>Mike, I understand just what your saying. That's why I
said it was up to him, his choice. Myself, I've had a
computer for five years with no problems. Had more
problems with updates on any of my computers. I run other
protection myself. Thanks.

We need to know the identity of that second update before we can advise - Go
back to Windows Updates, and then click on the link 'View Installation
History' in the left of the window - see what it reports, and let us know
which update failed - or which was the last update installed
