tried to do a factory restore on my laptop and ended up
getting a message that said error #29 . then i couldn't
do anything, i had to manually shut the computer down.
when i turned it back on the disk drive popped open .i
was told to remove the disk and press enter to reboot and
when i did i got " no operating system found ". i'm
lost.i can't do anything with the computer. windows Me
was preinstalled on my computer....any help would be
appreciated, thanks

From what little I can find this seems as if it may be related to using the
restore facility while running an AV (either a software AV, like Norton, or
the BIOS AV) -
"ERROR #29 CANNOT LOCK A LOCKED DRIVE"

You need to repeat the factory restore, starting with a floppy boot - unless
the restore disk is bootable??

Try contacting either Compaq direct, or looking in their support site (now
part of HP's support) -
