View Full Version : install won't finish

For those following this group, I solved the ownership problem by first
installing Win98SE, but it never got past the status screen.
But then I could establish ownership and installed WinME upgrade. It won't
finish either.
Status screen comes up, then ...
"searching for boot record ...ok"
"ez-bios initializing"
"ez-bios continuing startup ..."

And it never goes further, which should be on to windows startup screen.
The ME install was a complete - wiping out the old data,
Should I just junk it?

Why are you running ez-bios?
Does your Motherboard not recognise the full size of your HD?

it came with the board
- an earlier emachine 500s tower
do I have a choice? can I remove it? will this allow the bootup to proceed
and load windows?
thanks for your help

Lets go back to basics...
What's the motherboard?
What size HD's are you using?
most boxes of that era should be able to handle HD's of up to 120GB
natively, without the assistance of EZBios.

Thanks for responding.
I recall your name from many years on this and other MS groups and your good
advice.
I have a
TriGem International Florida-TG motherboard and
Western Digital AC31200, 1281 Mb HD

With a disk of that size there's no need whatever to be running EZ-BIOS!!
I'd re-partition the disk with FDISK, and reformat again

I think I have it.
I did fdisk, format and reinstall, all had no effect on EZ-BIOS.
Went to Western Digital site and got a program to remove EZ from older
models of WD. Tried several versions (notes were confusing). It didn't seem
to work, so I tried the latest version and tho it didn't appear to work, lo
and behold the next boot was to 98 OS.
I am now on to installing ME upgrade and it should work now that EZ seems to
be gone.
thanks a whole bunch for the help

Sorry - should have remembered that EZ-Bios needed a 'proper' uninstall (but
never having done it, would have had to research it, same as you<g>)
Well done - and good luck
