won't boot

my son returned from school with his computer which now
won't boot. After choosing safe mode machine turns off.
Boot disk doesn't help.Tried reinstall from cd - setup
says it can't find windows 98 files (my windows me was an
upgrade version) and won't reinstall. Any suggestions?

this sounds like you may have a hardware problem, try booting to the system bios and leaving it there for an hour or so. if it stays then it might be a bad harddrive.
