Hi. I would like to know how to reinstall windows ME
from the windows/options/cabs files like you can do in
win98. If this is not possible then how do I reinstall ME
without useing the restore disc? Step by step directions
are needed cause this is not my computer and I'm only
trying to help someone out. Can anyone help me help him?

You click on Setup (Setup.exe). Having renamed wmploc.dll and removed
Internet Explorer 6.0. But why do you feel the need to re-install? Odds are
the problem can be fixed without going to that time-consuming extreme.

He seems to have other problems also. Can't download
updates from Microsoft.com. He tried to download directX
9 from ms.com and can't. His computer freezes. Also
missing a dll but I'm not sure which one (he told but I
forgot). I was told we could reinstall ME with
options>cabs just like in win98. Is this correct?

Yes. Take a look here: http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/reinME.htm
Odds are we could sort out the problems here without re-installing - all
those updates sure take a long time and remember it's no longer safe to go
online - even once - without a firewall. But in this case I think
re-installing would be the easier option.
