View Full Version : Updates will not install after PF and I.

Hello,

After a partition, format and install I went to the WU
site and with a single exception (I.E.6) accepted all the
available updates.

I have I.E. 5.5.4134.100 and O.E.5.4132.2400. (ex Belarc
and my computer).

Version of I.E. prior to PF and I : 5.51.4807.2300 (ex
Belarc which also shows SP2).

I have the downloaded updates for I.E. Q824145 and Q 832894
and for O.E. Q837009.

None of these will install. The reason given "This update
requires I.E.5.5 Service Pack 2 to be installed". The same
applies to the O.E. update (sustituting O.E. for I.E.).

I cannot find this update.

Help/guidance appreciated.

Ben.

Noel, A tad terse and yet to the point. When I did use 6 I
was vastly irritated. I will have to 'drive without full
coverage' Did I tell you I did IT a second time - just to
prove it wasn't a fluke. IT took me twice as long!
What am I pleased, really pleased, about? I got my
keyboard back as once it was. No 'sticking/delayed' space
key. When I posted about that here I got the same sort of
reply - buy a new one.

Cheers,

Ben.

Oh - Hi, Ben - didn't read the sig/header, so it didn't click it was you!
(well, it IS Friday night!<g>)
Seriously, on a clean system it really IS better to go for IE6 - it's
quicker, and safer than 5.5 - you just need to know that some of the
'default' settings are no longer the ones that IE actually sets!
(confused? - I was!). The newer settings are 'safer than default' but can be
a little restrictive, so investigate for yourself under Internet
Properties|Security, and Privacy.

Humm, Noel, Wales is a dangerous place with all those pubs
and unreadable road signs - so I hear. I don't think I got
any further than Tiger Bay in my salad days.

Alright you have persuaded me - again. I.E.6 it will be. I
don't want to be thought as a chap who didn't give Bill's
way a chance ot two. I shall save the 'pleasure' for a
dull moment.

Thanks, Noel.

Ben.
