Just built a computer with AMD 64 3400+, Abit MV8 Mobo, 1gb mem, ATI Radeon
9600XT Vid card, Maxtor 150mg SATA HD. All operating systems that I try
either can't read files or won't run dll files during hardware detection or
finalizing system settings. Tried Win98, WinME, WinXP Pro. can't get any to
work. Can anyone give me an idea of what the heck is going on?
Thanks

I think you have too much memory for a Win9x Setup (don't know what XP's
excuse is). Take a stick out during the install, then replace it afterwards.

Since WinME is limited to 137GB/partition, I assume you've already
partitioned your drive.

No Win 9x system will install without tweaking - usually reducing the RAM
count to <=512MB will do the trick if there's no other problems
I suspect that you are attempting to install with the BIOS AV switched on -
try turning it off and see what happens
