View Full Version : Which drivers?

I'm trying to figure out why my pc doesn't freeze in safe mode. What
drivers are not loaded in safe mode? I can run spybot, adaware, scan disk
and defrag in safe mode without it freezing. Should I assume that some
driver is not working right when I'm not in safe mode?

Thank you,
Pat

USB devices, CD drivers. Only standard VGA drivers are loaded.

Freezing is often associated with faulty or poor Video drivers. OTOH few
viruses or other malware run in Safe Mode, so, no, don't *assume* a driver.
But try reducing hardware acceleration in Display Properties | Settings |
Advanced | Performance. See if there's an updated driver for your Graphics
card (or on-board video is that's what you've got).

Well,
Even though I installed a new HD, it still does it. So I know it's not a
virus, but I did run anti virus program, spybot and adaware.

TIA,
Pat

Most people prefer it that way.

What do you mean by "freeze"...

If it's while booting, run Normal Mode (logged) and check C:\Bootlog.txt
to see where things went pear-shaped.

Rick,
No, it's while I go on to use internet explorer, it's when I use spybot,
adaware, defrag. Anything really intense or not. Sometimes it's right
after I log in my password.
The thing is it never used to freeze(mouse stops, can't do anything), now it
freezes all of the time. I have a new reformatted HD and hardly have any
programs installed. It sounds like it's some faulty hardware. It doesn't
freeze in safe mode.
