View Full Version : Repair Internet Explorer 5.5 ?

May 27th 04, 01:11 AM
I have recently had several instances of IE popping up the error
window:

"An error has occurred in your program. To keep working anyway, click
Ignore and save your work in a new file. To quit this program, click
Close. You will lose information you entered since your last save."

Clicking 'Ignore' just keeps bringing up the same window. Clicking
'Close' immediately freezes the machine (Toshiba Satellite 1800
series), which then has to be powered off to restart.

Am running IE 5.5 with SP 2 installed.

Question: Can I try a "repair" IE 5.5 from the OEM recovery CD - I'd
rather NOT do a complete re-install of ME if at all possible.

Anyone care to comment about whether or not this problem could be a
hardware fault - the motherboard has been replaced twice previously
because of 'freezing' - but this time the freezing seems to be
confined to only when IE is running (so far!)

Any help is much appreciated - thanks.

Might help to make sure your system's pest-free first:

free for personal use antivirus tool:
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

free for personal use spybot/adware detection & removal tools:
http://www.safer-networking.org/
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

IE Repair is found at ControlPanel/AddRemovePrograms/InstallUninstall
(tab)/IE .... though I disrecall if 5.5 has that (maybe only 6)

Thanks Rick

The system is clean.

Found the 'repair' option just as you indicated, and yes, 5.5 has a
repair option. I'll be trying it shortly.

Strange, nothing has happened for the last 3-4 days now. Maybe I
scared it away!!!
