Hi all,

I have came across an problem trying to install Office
2000 premium on Windows ME.

The install seems to begin then a error box occurs.

" Installation ended prematurely because of an error"

I have searched and some solutiond pointed to

the file; Office 2000 Premium setup(0046)_msiexec.txt

I have found the FatalError in this txt doc but I do not
know how or what to change to allow install to complete.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Brian,

You probably need to provide somewhat more details. At a quick glance I can
find 14 Knowledge Base articles that include a reference to that exact error
message during the installation of Office 2000 and in many cases the message
is accompanied/preceded by additional messages such as for example "Error
2894. Internal Error 2894: Please contact product support for assistance."
(KB236053).

From your post I assume that you have read KB237957 - "OFF2000: How to Use an
Office 2000 Setup Log File to Troubleshoot Setup Problems"
(http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=237957) which provides some clues as to
how to discover the problem area and error code from the various log files.

Since your problem is with installing Office rather than, for the moment, the
operating system, you might get more help quicker by posting to a newsgroup
supporting the installation of Microsoft Office such as
microsoft.public.office.setup where you'll probably find posters able to
quickly help pin down the cause of your problems.
