The windows help and support page opens fine. The problem is when I click on the Index tab (within help and support ), thereis no index listing. Is there something I can do to get the index listing back?
Thanks.

See http://www.btinternet.com/~winnoel/HSfails.htm
If that doesn't help, post back.

I went through some various fixes that I thought pertained to my situation, to no avail.
I still do not have a listing in the "index" on the Help and Support page.
Any other suggestions....

A potential cure
Have you been to Windows Update recently and updated all the critical
patches? (

A potential cause
Have you reinstalled ME over itself recently?

What changes did you make to your system prior to the problem surfacing?

Yes Noel,
I did try to reinstall ME.
During the reinstall process, I recieved a "Suwin has caused an error in Verx.dll error", which stopped the reinstall of ME.
If this is the cause of my problems, how do I fix this darn thing?

P.S. I do not have the ME installation CD.

Ahhhh. The reason the reinstall failed is that you have WMP9 installed - and
you have to fool ME into thinking it's uninstalled before you can reinstall
ME over itself.
It shouldn't be necessary to reinstall ME anyhow - try this instead.....

Download Belarc Advisor - from www.belarc.com - run it, and it will show a
list of installed patches and their status - save the report, and email it
to me at .
Then you need to go to Windows Update, and force a reinstall of all the
broken patches. (Using the Windows Update Catalog).

See if that helps, and rerun Belarc to check that the patches are correctly
installed now.

Hi Noel,
Did you recieve the Belarc report?
I saw someone having the same problem, and you mentioned to go to www.btinternet.com.
There is an article that shows you how to uninstall\install PChealth.
Is this a good idea for my situation.

Thanks Noel,
I'm in the middle of downloading\installing some critical updates.
After installing the DirectX 9.0b, I've noticed that some of the dll's( ddraw.dll, dsound.dll, etc. etc.) are older versions and need to be updated according to the DirectXfiles list. How do I get the newer dll versions for the DirectX.
I tried to install Directx 9.0 again, but the dll's do not update.

Run Belarc Advisor again - it'll tell you which updates you need to
reinstall if some files were not updated correctly
If you run DXDIAG after completing the install, it should also see if there
are any wrong version numbers.

After installing DirectX9.0b, I ran directx and it notified me of 16 dll's that are older versions, which could cause problems.
Then it tells me to reinstall DirectX to the newest version. As far as I know Directx 9.0 is the newest version.
I reinstalled Directx 9.0b two times, but the same (older) 16 dll's are still present. How do I get the newer dll versions??

Hmm, I'll have to research this one - I'm not sure.
Can you post a list of some of the files with their version numbers?

What if you run Belarc? what does that say about broken patches?

I was looking through some folders and noticed that the newer dll's are in the VCM folder.
They are the same dll's mentioned previously, but newer version #.
Why doesn't DirectX recognize them, and shouldn't they be in the "System" folder?
Should I replace the older dll's with the newer ones manually..

Good News Noel,
After further research, I've decided to reinstall Directx 9.0b.
Low and behold the mentioned dlls were properly updated.

As far as the Help and Support issue, after installing the MDAC2.8 upgrade,
I have all the topics in the Index.

Thanks for your help and steering me in the right direction.
